What can I do to assist?

Stay in contact - this may sound like common sense, but if the solicitor is unable to take instructions from you then they will be unable to progress your claim any further.  It is surprising how many claims close just because the client didn’t keep in contact.

One piece of advice is you tell your solicitor if you change phone numbers or move address.

Provide honest and correct information - giving fraudulent or misleading information is a criminal offence, and the solicitor is likely to ask you to pay the bill for wasting their time. It is one of the only instances a solicitor will pursue you for your legal costs.  Additionally if they suspect a 'fraudulent claim' they will inform the authorities.

Will Photographs or diagrams help?

With Accidents at Work incidents photographs or diagrams of the location / layout / machinery can add weight to your claim and really help a solicitor in obtaining evidence  – the solicitor may not always be familiar with the task you may have been doing, so rather than your claim being assessed by the solicitor with a ‘picture’ in his head, any photographs or diagrams will really help.

 With Road Traffic Accidents the road layout and photographs showing the damage to the vehicles can be important to illustrate who was to blame for the accident.

Should I Record it in the Accident Book?

In Accidents at Work incidents, where possible always ensure your accident is logged in the accident book– every work place should have one.  This way there is a permanent record of your accident.

Do I need a Witness?

Witnesses can be vital towards proving the facts of an accident.  However the witness, if they are to add any weight to your claim will need to be independent.  All the solicitor will initially need are the witnesses contact details, and the solicitor will make contact and obtain a statement on your behalf.

Can I claim back any Expenses?

If your claim is taken on your solicitor will pursue your claim on 2 fronts, one is your compensation for the injuries you sustained and secondly known as ‘specials’ is anything you maybe out of pocket with due to the accident for example: 

• Loss of earnings

• Paying for prescriptions

• Physiotherapy treatment

• Taxi / Public Transport fares

• Cancellation of a holiday

• Effects on your daily life – not being able to go to the gym or complete household tasks

• The cost of having someone round to look after you like a family member 

How does the Solicitor Get Paid?

The solicitor will only get paid if your claim is successful.  The Solicitor will look to claim back from the other side all your legal fees and a success fee for winning the case.  They will not make a deduction from your compensation.

How do I know I’m not wasting my time?

Solicitors will only accept a claim were they feel they have more than 51% chance of success. They do not get paid if your case was to lose, so they won’t take on a claim if they didn’t feel as though it was good enough to win.

How would I make a complaint? 

Should you have any cause for complaint about the service provided by Look2Claim you should contact Look2Claim in writing. 

We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 business days advising you who is dealing with the complaint and indicating when you may expect an answer.  We will provide a formal written response within 20 business days from the date of receipt of the original complaint. 

If the complaint cannot be resolved within this timescale we will write with an explanation as to why the complaint is taking longer to resolve and the new timescale involved.
